Arrow Subjects & Names Tree Help - Text Version

Help using the Subjects and Names Keyword Tree views :

The tree views show all of the keywords that have been attached to records. You may have seen these at the bottom of a record i.e. ‘Related Subjects’ and ‘Related Names’.

Keywords help you to track down all records that are related to a particular subject. For example if you were interested in ‘Thornliebank Industrial estate’ the you would find this located underneath the subject ‘Industry’.

Selecting ‘Thornliebank Industrial Estate’ and hitting the ‘submit’ button will return all records that have this keyword attached.

There are 2 different working versions of the Tree views, one for JavaScript users and one for non JavaScript users.

Non Script Version

This is the accessible version  and will be used by default if JavaScript is not enabled or if a user choooses to do so.

The initial view presented will be the top level of the navigation list. If there are other subjects belonging to this category, the subject will be hyperlinked.

Click on the subject to explore the subjects. You will then be presented with the underlying subjects of the parent subject. Again, if they are hyperlinked, then you can explore further.

To perform a search on based on any of the subjects, simply select the check box next to the subject. You can select multiple subjects on the same page.

Once you are happy with the selected subjects, choose ‘Confirm’ at the bottom of the page to submit your search criteria.

Script Version

If you have JavaScript enabled, then you will be re-directed to this page.

The initial view presented will be the top level of the navigation list. If there is a ‘Plus’ symbol icon next to the topic name, it means there are other subjects belonging to this category that can be explored. Click on the plus sign to reveal them. Otherwise, there are no other subjects belonging to this parent subject.

There is a ‘Show All’ link at the top of the page to reveal the whole tree – this will present an exploded view. Click on ‘Hide All’ to close everything.

A small search box is provided to help locate subjects / names in the tree. Type in the subject, place, keyword or name into the search box and the result(s) will be shown and highlighted on the tree.

Make a selection by clicking on the checkbox and activate the search by clicking on the ‘Confirm’ tick at the bottom of the page. Multiple selections of as many topics as required may be made.
