East Renfrewshire consists of a diversity of people with differences in economic and social circumstances, experiences and ultimately life chances. In the field of equality, our aim is to work with other agencies, in line with the Council’s overall statement of purpose and core values, to empower disadvantaged, vulnerable and under-represented sections of the community with a view to enabling them to enjoy equality of access to jobs and services with the rest of the community.

The aim of the Council’s Equality policy is to ensure that no job applicant, service user or employee receives less favourable treatment than any other on any grounds including: race, colour, religion, responsibility for dependants, nationality, ethnic or national origins, religion, age, sex, sexuality, marital status, employment status, political belief or disability or is disadvantaged by conditions or requirements which cannot be shown to be justifiable.

The hub of the Council’s equality engine room is the Corporate Equality Unit, with links to Departmental Equality Officers and the Council’s Corporate Management Team. Together we are working to unite Elected Members, Officers and the community to work together for equality.
