East Renfrewshire Designed Landscapes & Gardens Group

The Group meets regularly to identify, survey, and research the historic designed landscapes and gardens of East Renfrewshire.

The activities of members of the group vary depending on personal interests but can include desk based studies using online maps and sources, searching archives and records and conducting interviews. There are also opportunities for members to carry out site exploration.

Recent projects include:

  • discovering and documenting the remains of the 18th century formal garden at Caldwell
  • exploring the evidence of the very extensive heated glasshouse installation and other features at Cowden Hall
  • delighting in the unusual features of ceramic guttering and coffin topped gate posts at Neilston Cemetery !
