Townswomen's Guild

The Townswomen's Guild was a popular group in many of the towns in the district. Our archives contain some items relating to the various branches of the Guild, including those of Barrhead, Busby and Newton Mearns.

Barrhead

The Townswomen's Guild of Barrhead items we have include: a commemorative tablecloth embroidered with the phrase "It's a long way to Tipperary"; a NUTG (National Union of Townswomen's Guilds) Treasurer medal; a TG (Townswomen's Guild) Medal, 1929-1979; and a Townswomen's Guild tablecloth, dated 1988.

Busby

Busby Townswomen's Guild was located in the Duff Memorial Hall, Main Street, Busby, East Renfrewshire. Our collections include: minutes from 1948 to 1973; correspondence; press cuttings; historical notes, including other Townswomen's Guilds in the area; photographs (originals and photocopies); programmes, scripts, notes, etc. relating to dramatic productions; and an Annual Report from 1977.

Newton Mearns

Records of Newton Mearns Townswomen's Guild contained in our collections include: cash books and associated financial papers, 1998-2002, 2003-4; minute books, 1996, 2002; and a visitors' book, 1990-97.
