Heritage Services and Resources

Whether you are tracing your family tree or researching your local area, East Renfrewshire has lots of resources to help. We endeavour to preserve our heritage through our extensive collection, which includes old photographs, maps, newspapers and records. We also have a local history book collection and hold electoral registers and valuation rolls up to the present. We can also offer guidance on using the Internet to research the past.

Our main heritage centre is located at Giffnock Community Library where the Local Studies Librarian is based. However we have also have local and family history resources available at the library at the Barrhead Foundry which are centred on Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor. This includes the Neilston Parish census from 1841 to 1901, the Neilston Old Parish Registers and the Barrhead News (microfilm and microfiche) from 1897 to the present.
