Family History at East Renfrewshire

If you are interested in family history we have many resources which you will find helpful. Our Heritage Centre at Giffnock Library is where you will find census returns, Old Parish Registers, local history books, historical newspapers and maps all relating to the East Renfrewshire area.

A smaller collection of material is kept at the library at Barrhead Foundry which focuses on the Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor area and includes: the Neilston Parish census from 1841 to 1901, the Neilston Old Parish Registers and the Barrhead News (microfilm and microfiche) from 1897 to the present.

Online Resources

If your research takes you further than East Renfrewshire then you can also use our online resources allowing you access to information and documents from all over the world. We have institutional subscriptions to Ancestry Library Edition and this can be accessed for free within East Renfrewshire libraries by library members.

We also take part in the ScotlandsPeople voucher scheme which means you can buy discounted vouchers for this website from our libraries
