Database Records

The Heritage Catalogue contains details of many of the resources we have in East Renfrewshire, these include photographs, documents and museum items. New records are being added all the time, so keep checking to see how the catalogue grows. You can search in several ways: Simple Search, Advanced Search and Tree View Search. A brief description of each search type is given below, for more help choose the Help Guide from the menu on the left.

Simple Search

Users can search the catalogue for a particular word or phrase in their selected category (e.g. title, collection, keyword, etc.). It provides a quick and easy way for you to get access to the information that interests you. To search the records this way, use the Simple Search at the top of any page. Enter your search terms, select 'catalogue' and hit the search button.

Advanced Search

For more complex queries users can take advantage of our Advanced Search in which you can combine searches. This can be found on the Search Catalogue page.

Here are just a few examples:

  1. Keyword searches using several criteria, e.g. subject, name and collection.
  2. Date searches (for a specific period, e.g. Medieval Period, Victorian era, 1930s)
  3. Search by type, e.g. for images only on a subject of your choice.

Tree View Search

Every record has its own list of Related Names and Related Subjects. You can view the complete hierarchy of subjects and names in a convenient way. Simply browse the tree structure, tick the subjects you are interested in and hit the search button.

Tag Cloud Search

Each record is tagged with keywords. The Tag Cloud presents a list of the top 100 keywords, with a number next to each entry. The number is how many records in the database have been tag with this keyword. Simply click on any keyword and you will be presented with the list of records that use that keyword.
